There are volunteer opportunities with Asian CineVision (ACV) year round and Asian American International Film Festival seasonally. Most of our volunteers are devoted to running our marquee event, the Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF).

In addition, volunteers will get:
• Comp tickets for AAIFF screenings and other ACV events

ACV and AAIFF Staff
Asian CineVision is a non-profit organization which relies solely on its volunteer staff. These staff members work hard behind the scenes to prepare, organize, and manage all festival operations, spanning the entire festival year. Please note the following:
• Staff positions are UNPAID.
• Hours vary by position, but staff can generally expect to devote a flexible 15 hours/week during prep/wrap months, and full availability/on-call hours during the days of the festival.
• This is a great fit for working professionals and college students looking to boost their resume or to develop their skills!
Available Staff Positions
HR Manager (x1)
- Communicate with candidates via email to schedule interviews
- Ensure new staff are onboarded to Slack, Google Suite, and other necessary programs
- Keep accurate record of signed Staff/Volunteer Agreements
- Remain up to date on HR best practices
Copyediting Assistant (x2)
- Proofread all copy, including for website data entry, social media posts, marketing materials, program book, press releases, etc.
- Ensure grammar, spelling, and syntax are correct and uniform throughout all material
- Refer to ACV Style Guide to ensure consistent brand voice and style across all platforms
- Correspond with other staff departments as needed to obtain or clarify information
Creative Associate (x1)
- Maintain creative content calendar and ensure assets are created/submitted on time
- Organize assets in Google Drive to be easily retrievable by various AAIFF teams
- Support Creative Manager in managing the team and making sure resources are allocated appropriately
- Support Creative Manager in developing creative strategy that is cohesive across design, web, and photo/video teams
Lead Designer (x1)
- Collaborate with the Creative Manager and designers to determine the art direction of the festival
- Create visual guide, templates, and brand elements that will be used for various AAIFF visual mediums (e.g. website, social, newsletter)
- Assign work to designers and make sure assets are delivered on time
- Work with other designers to produce and design assets needed for the festival, including print and digital materials
- Required technical skills: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Program Book Designer (x1)
- Design the AAIFF program book (guide on AAIFF screenings, events, sponsors, etc) according to the art direction for AAIFF48
- Work with Editorial Manager to ensure all festival details are included in an effective manner
- Required technical skills: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator
Graphic Designer (x3)
- Work with Lead Designer to design print marketing collateral (postcards, flyers, etc), social assets, and digital media (walk-in slides, video trailer)
- Help design additional support materials for community partners and sponsors as needed
- Work with Creative Manager and Lead Designer to centralize ACV’s visual identity
- Required Technical Skills: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Video Editor (x1)
- Edit social media videos and recorded Q&As for promotion of ACV programming and mission in a timely manner
- Create a festival trailer and post-festival recap video
- Must have their own computer and editing software
- Required Technical Skills: Adobe Premiere or Avid Media Composer, as well as understanding of AE files and sound
Photo Editor (x1)
- Review archives and choose photos or artwork from past festivals to support Creative and Marketing teams
- Cull, edit, and watermark photos taken from ACV live events in a timely manner
- Must be available during the festival, especially in the mornings to deliver watermarked assets before the evening programming starts
- Must be able to edit from their own computer
Photographer/Videographer (x10-15)
- Capture photos/video of festival screenings, Q&As, festival guests and filmmakers, guest interviews, and receptions
- Deliver raw photos to Photo Editor as required by the end of each festival day
- Must be available most days of the festival and have their own equipment
Associate Development Manager (x1)
- Collaborate with the Development Manager to customize specific pitches within ACV’s overall strategy
- Assist the Development Manager with overseeing the completion of tasks by the Sponsorship and Community Partner Coordinators
- Liaise with other teams to ensure the Development team is properly informed on what’s needed for ACV programs
- Create tailored pitch decks, contracts, and reports for sponsors and partners
- Ensure all internal outreach databases are up-to-date and organized
- Identify opportunities in programming to involve sponsors throughout the year
- Analyze and collect data for the end of year Impact Report
Sponsorship Coordinator (x2)
- Identify and partner with brands for potential in-kind sponsorship (food, beverage, raffle prizes) to support ACV’s events
- Establish partnership terms and oversee the execution of partnership agreements
- Identify opportunities for cross-promotion, collaboration, and integration for the brand with the festival
- Work closely with Programming and Marketing teams
Community Partner Coordinator (x2)
- Cultivate relationships with AAPI / Arts / Media non-profit partners, professional groups, and our general audience
- Develop proposals for audience growth
- Identify opportunities for brand building via partner collaboration or relevant cross-promotional support
- Develop and plan integrations for community partners during the festival (e.g. panels, happy hours, etc.)
- Partner with other film and media arts organizations to promote the festival
- Work closely with Programming and Marketing teams
Grant Writer (x1)
- Research government, foundational and corporate grants that fit with ACV’s programming
- Work with Grant Consultant and Directors on drafting grant proposals throughout the year
- Must have strong writing skills
Events Coordinator (x2)
- Optimize non-theatrical events (may include both online and in-person happy hours, receptions, and performances) to fulfill Programming/Development goals and to comply with latest safety protocols
- Research and scout potential venues, vendors, and talent
- Conduct a walkthrough when a location of interest has been identified
- Liaise between venue contact and ACV
- Work with other internal teams so all relevant sponsors, graphics, and other items needed are planned
- Work within a budget, submitting a wrap report at the end of each event
- Conduct tech check a week before the event
- Must be organized, calm under pressure, and have professional email etiquette
- Must be available for the complete run of events, including set-up, on-site management, and break down
Marketing Data Analyst (x1)
- Identify and interpret key data behind our newsletter, website, and social media channels
- Assess the impact of our marketing campaigns, allowing us to make research-backed decisions
Social Media Lead (x1)
- Manage a team of social media coordinators and ensure we have enough coverage for live events and post scheduling
- Work with Marketing Manager and develop social media strategy to increase ACV exposure
- Stay updated on emerging social media trends and incorporate them into the strategy
- Maintain social content calendar and make sure posts are going out on time
Social Media Coordinator (x4)
- Manage ACV’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter), create posts, and engage with our audience in our brand voice
- Knowledgeable on how to engage with media and AANHPI spaces on social platforms
- Experience with Canva preferred
- Must be available during the festival for live social media coverage
Newsletter Coordinator (x2)
- Manage ACV’s monthly newsletter, curating content from various partnerships as well as engaging with our audience in our brand voice
- Work with various AAIFF teams (e.g. Programming, Creative) to gather content for newsletter creation
- Stay updated on newsletter trends and best practices and incorporate them into our overall strategy
Press Coordinator (x2)
- Strategize press releases and develop media relationships to increase online and print press coverage of ACV programming
- Must be available during festival dates to coordinate press attendance at festival events and facilitate filmmaker interviews
- Must demonstrate excellent writing ability
- Existing public relations and media contacts a plus
- Ability to communicate in multiple languages a plus
Box Office Coordinator (x2)
- Manage the Elevent ticketing platform and process, enabling sale of merchandise and tickets
- Upload all screenings and events onto Elevent
- Communicate ticketing guidelines for programs and events
- Train volunteers and staff in using the Elevent and SplashThat systems, and enforce admission guidelines for events
- Generate box office reports and reconciliation sheets after every event (daily during the festival)
- Field ticket requests from sponsors, filmmakers, and special guests
- Distribute and assign passes to all passholders
- Scan tickets and distribute rush line tickets during the festival.
Guest Services Coordinator (x2)
- Disseminate ACV programming details and local recommendations to all guests.
- Work closely with Programmers to ensure AAIFF filmmakers are fully informed regarding accommodations and special events
- Liaise between ACV and accommodation partners (hotels, airlines) during AAIFF
- Respond to emails and answer questions from filmmakers
- Check in and distribute merch to passholders
- Must be available every day of the festival
Print Traffic Coordinator (x2)
- Responsible for the receiving, documenting, internal distribution, and returning of print materials between filmmakers and the venues
- Quality check exhibition screeners to ensure proper playback
- Send out VOD requests on the Elevent platform
- Communicate with Elevent to organize film blocks and thumbnails
Production Assistant (x2)
- Assist Production Manager with behind-the-scenes coordination and troubleshooting for in-person events, ensuring they they run on time
- Schedule and manage volunteers to ensure smooth flow during screenings, workshops, and other events
- Set up theaters prior to screenings with reserved seat signs, director chairs for Q&As, etc.
- Preferred candidates are organized, good with spreadsheets, and can think on their feet
- Must be available most days of the festival
Broadcast Technician (x1)
- Ensure good sound and video quality via coordinating tech rehearsals and proper equipment with screening venues
- Quality check recorded Q&As and ensure correct playback during in-person screenings
- Prior experience with audio-visual equipment, print trafficking and/or on-site production is highly preferred
- Must be available every day of the festival
Transportation Coordinator (x2)
- Drive a rental van to and from our storage unit to the venue
- Assist other staff members with loading and unloading the van
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving in NYC
- Must be available every day of the festival
Programming Coordinator (x1)
- Assist the Programming Manager with overseeing the submissions, screening, and trafficking of films
- Facilitate information exchange between the Programming team and other departments to ensure deadlines are met
- Maintain documentation of programming work via Google Drive
- Schedule Q&A and panel times with selected filmmakers and panelists
- Organize the production of festival awards, and liaise with jurors to determine award winners
- Project management experience is a plus
Festival Programmer (x10)
- Review submissions and make selections to be screened at the festival. Categories include feature-length and short narratives, feature-length and short documentaries, music videos, and episodic.
- Aid in building the programming schedule
- Schedule and moderate Q&As with selected filmmakers
- Term: ~8-10 hours/week from February through April, or until all submissions have been reviewed. All work is remote.
- Cinema studies or film programming background preferred but not required
Screenplay Programmer (x2)
- Review screenplay submissions based on grading criteria, and select winners to be produced as a live reading
- Liaise with screenplay reading producing partner and selected screenwriters
- Term: January through June
- Screenwriting, film production or film programming background preferred
Panel/Workshop Coordinator (x2)
- Brainstorm, execute, and curate festival workshops and panels with the Programming Manager
- Communicate and liaise with participants and production team to ensure panels and workshops run smoothly
Web Developer (multiple)
- Work with Web Lead and Lead Developer to make enhancements to ACV and AAIFF websites
- Manage the ACV and AAIFF websites and keep them up to date
- Work with Directors and Marketing team to ensure content is correct
- Experience with WordPress highly preferred
Data Entry Manager (x1)
- Work closely with Directors and Editorial Manager to ensure that data entered on ACV and AAIFF websites is up to date
- Manage Data Entry Assistants and divide up tasks
- Train Data Entry Assistants on best practices for data entry
- Ideal candidate will be flexible, patient, and enjoy working with details
- Experience with WordPress a plus
Data Entry Assistant (x2)
- Work with Data Entry Manager to enter film and event information onto festival website
- Pull information from various spreadsheets and documents
- Correct and maintain information as needed
- Ideal candidate is able to work quickly and accurately
- Experience with WordPress a plus
CineVue Contributor (multiple)
- Write film reviews, think pieces, academic papers, and profiles that engage the AANHPI community
- Pitch potential profiles and long-form pieces during monthly meeting
- Work with a team of contributors to execute the content and marketing strategy led by the Managing Editor and AAIFF Marketing team
- Collaborate with other writers and staff when needed on big feature projects
- Research and review new independent AANHPI cinema
- Keep up to date on all film and television current events, especially related to the AANHPI community
