Position at ACV: Box Office Manager

What brought you to Asian CineVision (ACV)?

The need to do something over the summer and the desire for that something to be interesting. Also, chance (my friend sending me the link) and luck (being accepted as the box office manager) played a pretty big role too.

What is your favorite part about being at ACV so far?

Watching the films we’re showing this year is my favorite, but ACV’s proximity to Ktown is not far behind.

Asian CineVision has been around for over 35 years. Why is it important that an organization like Asian CineVision should still exist?

Asian Americans are still almost invisible in mainstream media. And when we are represented, we’re either misrepresented or painted over with a single brush. I think it’s important that we should have our voices heard and stories told, and that’s why an organization like ACV—which works to bring those voices and stories to light—is still so necessary.

What should people expect from the 2013 Asian American International Film Festival?

A wide range of very cool films that might just surprise them.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I have the terrible habit of stopping in the middle of things (books, games, anime, paintings, you name it) and not finishing until weeks or months later.

If you can be anything in this world, regardless of money or status, what would it be and why?

An animator. I don’t have enough artistic ability for it, but I find animation a beautiful art form—in my biased opinion, the best art form—and spending my life creating beauty of the kind I see in Ghibli or Makoto Shinkai films would be very fulfilling.
