Name: Bee Vang

Position at ACV: AAIFF’13 Prints and Hospitality Coordinator.
What brought you to Asian CineVision (ACV)?
I’ve had some experience in media activism in relation to Asian American (cultural) politics, as well as having been a part of the media world. I wanted to do something concrete, something tangible so that I may create a space to dovetail media activism with the artistic world of media.
What is your favorite part about being at ACV so far?
I think I am becoming increasingly aware of the NYC landscape…. It’s a perfect way to introduce myself to the city; I hope to live here someday
Asian CineVision has been around for over 35 years. Why is it important that an organization like Asian CineVision should still exist?
I believe that it should exist because Asian American media is an oft-forgotten community of artists and activists. Like affirmative action policies, there needs to be a space that is safe to help cultivate artistry and development, and ACV is a great place for Asian and Asian American filmmakers.
What should people expect from the 2013 Asian American International Film Festival?
People who attend our screenings should expect to watch some very beautiful and compelling short and feature-length films.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
Nothing, really….
If you can be anything in this world, regardless of money or status, what would it be and why?
I would like to be cat; rather, an artistocat. Cats are very aloof, cool and cozy, as if they’re in a perpetual state of zen….
