Asian CineVision announces BICYCLES AND RADIOS
winner of
The ImaginAsian Excellence in Short Filmmaking Award
at
The 27th Asian American Internaional Film Festival
New
York, NY - On July 24 at the Closing Night party, Asian
CineVision (ACV) honored short film Bicycles and
Radios, directed by O. Nathapon, as the winner of
the first annual ImaginAsian Excellence In Short Filmmaking
award during the 27th Asian American International Film
Festival (AAIFF).
The
ImaginAsian Excellence in Short Filmmaking Award,
a juried award, is awarded to the best short film screened
at the festival. The final five shorts were selected
by the AAIFF¹s Shorts Screening Committee, and then
presented to a panel of judges to pick the winner. The
judges for the ImaginAsian Excellence in Short Filmmaking
Award were: Jennifer Fong (Producer, yU&co), Shari
Frilot (Programmer, Sundance Film Festival), Julianne
Hausler (President, New York Office), Warrington Hudlin
(Founder, Black Filmmaker Foundation), and Charles Stone
III (Director, Paid in Full and Drumline).
³The
films nominated for this award were all extremely amazing.
Each film captured the depth and breadth short films
can achieve. We are proud to honor Bicycles and Radios
as the winning short.²
Shot
on super 16mm, Bicycles and Radios follows two
wounded souls who find solace in each other through
a radio talk show. They finally decided to set a date
to call the radios station and express their feelings,
but just a few minutes before the program, their batteries
die.
Other
shorts finalists included: Curtis (Jakob Akira Okada,
US,), Eternal Gaze (Sam Chen, US), Sangam (Prashant
Bhargava, US), Slowly Silently (Jinoh Park, US).
The
27th Asian American International Film Festival, presented
by HBO and Time Warner, took place from Friday, July
16 through Saturday, July 24 at the Asia Society and
Museum and ImaginAsian Theater (www.imaginasiantv.com).
Selected films also screened at the Cinema Arts Centre
in Huntington, Long Island (www.cinemaartscentre.org)
from July 30 August 1.
Asian
